Rowena can hardly be found without her nose stuck in a book, or at the very least one tucked under her arm. Wild eyed, curious and clever Rowena will keep you on your toes. She always seems to be going at full speed and she will not stop and wait if you're unsure about her ideas. She has a strong fascination with transfiguration and magical creatures and is the cleverest witch of her time. She learned at a young age how to combine and create new spells so that she may meet her own ends. Rowena has a great sense of good and is friendly to everyone she meets. She is compassionate, kind and in tune with the earth. She may, however, put her own success before others though not from lack of love. Rowena has an extremely big heart and enough room for everyone she meets. Her greatest love was that love she had with her husband and she will never have another place in her heart for another lover. A P P E A R A N C E Played By: Mary Louise Parker H I S T O R Y Born in Medieval times to the noble Lord and Lady Ravenclaw, Rowena was named for her cheerful disposition, friendly nature and the eventuality of her fame. Being the only child was hard on Rowena as her parents expected 'great things' from her and she never wanted such great things. Her focus was rather on books, wit and, though not as importantly love. While her parents did not have the time to raise young Rowena on their own she was raised by a nurse whom Rowena was exceedingly close with. The only time Rowena ever saw her parents was at daily meals or when she needed their permission. Life with the Ravenclaws was all about formality, charm and lessons in the basics. However when Rowena was alone with her nurse she felt all of that formality melt away. It was her nurse that instilled the need and want for knowledge in her. When she was a baby the nurse would read one tale a night to her and as she grew older she found that it was easier for her to read a book and learn than make friends. Still, Rowena found her own ways to have fun at an early age which usually involved some form of magic. Her magical tendencies showed up at the age of 5 and by the time she was 8 she had a a great deal of control over them. During her early teen years Rowena became convinced that she could make magical spells of her own accord and began experimenting. She excelled in Charms, and Transfiguration. She also had a wild fascination with magical creatures and exotic locations. Rowena would sneak out at night to apparate to an unknown area and study the wildlife she found there. She generally liked to apparate across the world so she would be able to study during the day and this meant she learned a great deal about the asian culture, climate and creatures. Her parents eventually caught on to what she was doing around the age of 14 and forbade her from leaving the castle grounds. She was to finish her studies and not get into any trouble. This was fine with Rowena, as she quite liked her studies, but she also liked learning on her own the same if not more than from tutors. However, she obeyed her parents and did not leave the grounds for the next two years. When Rowena turned 16 she was taken aside by her parents and told that she was to be wed to an Irish nobleman that she had never heard of. Their union was supposed to strengthen the bond between Scottland and Ireland, but Rowena was devastated and put up a fight. She had always respected her parents and had always followed the rules, however this time she had enough. That night she snuck out of the castle grounds and apparated to her favorite place; Loch Ness. She sat at the loch's edge and began to cry, her face buried in her hands. "Why do you cry?" a voice asked from behind her. It was a dark haired boy who seemed to be a few years older than she was. Rowena was startled and taken off guard. She rose from her seat and fled; the boy followed calling out for her. He had been taken away by her beauty and sadness and he needed to know more of her, but she suddenly disappeared before his eyes and he realized that she was a witch. The boy was a muggle who was about to be sent away to train as a warrior, but he did not want to go. Still, the calvary was coming to claim him in a few days and he knew he would never see beauty like the girl's again in his life. He went home with the thought of her in his mind. The boy went back to Loch Ness every night that week to see if he would see the girl again and learn more of her, but every night she was not there. That is until his last night before he was to leave to join the calvary. There Rowena was again, crying in the same spot. "Fair maiden, why do you cry?" he asked again, but this time Rowena did not run. She looked at him and told him that she had just met the man she was supposed to marry, but she did not love him. The boy took pity on the girl and sat with her so that they may speak and share in their woes, but soon their woes did not seem as large for the other was hurting just as much. They began to speak of other things, of life as a muggle and of magic. Before they knew it the sun was rising and the boy, not wanting to leave the witch's beauty asked for Rowena's hand in marriage. Rowena found that she had a deep love for this boy and though the union of a muggle and a witch was rare in her day she accepted his invitation and they ran away together to be wed. Rowena and her husband moved to Great Glen where they made a living and started a family. When Rowena was 17 she gave birth to their only child who they named Helena, and both were glad to learn in later years that she was a witch like her mother. The family lived in peace and happiness for the next three years until Rowena was offered an apprenticeship with Ambrosius, a famous wizard of their time. Her husband encouraged her to take the offer and though Rowena did not want to leave the family she did so for the opportunity was too good to give up. It was here under the wing of Ambrosius that she met Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin and her best friend Helga Hufflepuff. The four became fast friends and learned much in the ways of magic from Ambrousius; so much so that their own arts began to rival his and by the time their 7th year was up they had all of them greater gifts than even their teacher. Still, they had learned all that they could from their teacher and their time to leave his side had come. The friends parted never knowing if they would see each other again and went about their own lives. Rowena returned to her home in Great Glen and found that her daughter had grown into a young woman and was 11 years old. She lamented not having been there to watch her daughter grow up, but was glad to be there now. Rowena worked from home continuing her experiments in magic, but stayed in contact with her three friends. She enjoyed being a mother and moreso a wife again and found that her love for her husband was so deep she never wanted to leave his side again. In 992 tragedy struck and during the full Moon Rowena came upon a werewolf and killed him. The next day her husband did not come home from his trip. He had hid the fact that he was a werewolf from her this whole time and it ended in his demise. Rowena was devestated at the news from her daughter. Still, she had a daughter to care for and she had very little practice in being a mother. She managed to keep herself together only long enough to find a suitable man for Helena to marry knowing that Helena needed a man to take care of her; the man was the bloody baron. With that done Rowena locked herself in her house and did not answer any summons, she only cried and lamented the death of her husband. Months later an owl came from her friend Helga with a plan for a magical school.
